The following products will cause damage to Leather and Polyurethane coverings:
Ammonia and chemical based detergents; furniture polish (e.g. Mr Min); hairsprays and various hair products (e.g. Brylcream) and hair straighteners which contain Lye.
Use of the above products will have the following effect on your furniture:
Hardening of the upholstery fabric, Peeling and or cracking and Discolouration.
Ensure that all leather and P.U upholstery is regularly cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.
ALL furniture items should be kept out of direct sunlight or consistent UV light, as fading will result. Sunlight also causes hardening and cracking of both PU and leather coverings.
Ensure that furniture is kept dust free at all times as dust is corrosive and can cause damage to the patina of the leather.
Lounge furniture should always be rotated to ensure even wear on all components.
Certain fabrics such as Denim, can cause damage to PU upholstery and scratch marks on leather. Studs on pockets of jeans can tear and rub into the upholstery.
FULL LEATHER:
This is a durable and flexible material created by the tanning of animal rawhide and skin. This is much more expensive than synthetic products. Genuine leather will have very expressed grooves kind of like your skin and will have a rich leathery scent even when dyed.
BONDED LEATHER:
Bonded leather is nothing more than leather off cuts that have been glued (bonded) together to form something resembling leather. It is inexpensive compared to other forms of leather.
PU – POLYURETHANE:
This is a man-made material that is made to represent real leather but in fact is NOT. PU is far less durable and cheaper in cost. It is far less thick than real leather. Grooves similar to your fingerprints are pressed into the material to give it that REAL look.
LEATHER UPPER:
The parts of the lounge suite which are physically touched when sitting on it are covered with real leather, (i.e. seat; backrest; armrest; footrest if it is a recliner). The rest of the suite is covered with PU. This makes it cheaper to manufacture.
AIR PU:
The same as normal PU but better quality and has microscopic holes which makes it breathable.
